Abstract: This paper presents a binary time-modulated (TM) phased array for steerable directional modulation (DM) in physical-layer secure wireless communications. Binary state quasi-Yagi antennas are employed to realize time modulation, while progressive phase weights are applied to steer the harmonic radiation patterns. A four-element prototype operating at 2 GHz is designed and experimentally verified. Measured harmonic patterns show that the desired direction can be steered from broadside to 72◦ while maintaining suppressed higher-order harmonics along the main-lobe direction. Over-the-air OFDM bit-error-rate (BER) measurements further confirm low BER at the desired direction and significantly increased BER at undesired angles, validating the proposed array for beam-steerable secure wireless transmission.
