Paper Title: The Influence of Muscle Contraction Intensity on Electrical Impedance Myography

Abstract: Muscle loss is more susceptible to the thigh’s region when compared to the lower leg and pelvic. Thus, it could be beneficial to add local Electrical Impedance Myography (EIM) measurements for specific muscle groups that provide information about contraction intensity, potentially enabling a regional assessment of muscle performance. Here we considered the seated leg extension exercise and measured the EIM-signal along rectus femoris muscle during rest and isometric contraction at different intensities. Test results from three healthy male adults suggest that both the Nyquist plot and its respective Cole parameters enable a differentiation of the muscle’s state that is valid in lower frequency rage.
