Abstract: 0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3–0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3 (BZT–BCT) thick films exhibit good piezoelectric and energy storage properties and have great potential for use in miniaturized electronic devices. Since conventional sintering methods limit the use of metal substrates due to the high sintering temperatures, a room-technique, such as aerosol deposition can be used. In this work, we used aerosol deposition to prepare dense BZT–BCT thick films on stainless-steel substrates at room temperature. The films annealed at 800 °C exhibit an effective piezoelectric coefficient of 41.5 pm/V at 170 kV/cm. The recovered energy density and energy efficiency of these films at 1500 kV/cm are 9.5 J/cm3 and 84%, respectively. The energy storage properties of the thick films remain relatively stable even after 100 million electric field cycles and over a temperature range of -50 °C to 200 °C.
