Paper Title: Construction of Orthogonal Transmit Sequences Using the Nearest Orthogonal Matrix
Student Contest: No
Affiliation Type: Academia
Keywords: Beamforming, orthogonal, transmit, REFoCUS, beams
Abstract: The notion of orthogonal beams holds significant importance across diverse domains of array signal processing. However, traditional transmit sequences in medical ultrasound, such as focused transmits, often lack orthogonality, and attaining this desired property through beam parameter adjustments is highly non-trivial. In this study, we propose leveraging the concept of the nearest orthogonal matrix in the frequency domain to achieve orthogonal transmit beams. By employing the inverse Fourier transform, we can construct tailored waveforms for each array element, ensuring beam orthogonality. Notably, these waveforms find application in methods like the adjoint-based REFoCUS, offering computational advantages and intuitive appeal over the regularized alternative.
