Abstract: Inverter architectures employing wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor devices have enabled substantial advancements in traction systems, including higher efficiency, increased power density, elevated switching frequencies, and enhanced levels of system integration. In this paper, a zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) inverter platform is proposed to reduce the dv/dt slew rate of SiC switching transients. Consequently, motor terminal overvoltage oscillations in electric vehicles, cable-fed drive systems and transportation are significantly attenuated. By mitigating the RW phenomenon, the proposed inverter reduces motor insulation stress and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Both theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate a reduction in EMI broadband harmonic emissions of up to 25 dBμV. Experimental validation on an inverter-motor system with a 2-meter cable shows that the peak overvoltage is reduced from approximately 50% for a conventional hard-switched inverter to 4% with the proposed ZVS inverter.
