Paper Title: A Modified Wavenumber Algorithm That Preserves the DAS Image
Affiliation Type: Academia
Keywords: Fourier beamforming, Wavenumber algorithm
Abstract: Full-matrix data imaging offers high resolution and contrast in ultrasound imaging. However, it is computationally expensive. To address this, the wavenumber algorithm (WA) was introduced in non-destructive testing, offering significantly reduced complexity compared to delay-and-sum (DAS) techniques. Later, it was demonstrated that although WA is theoretically derived from the wave equation, it produces inaccurate amplitude estimates by suppressing targets at high angles and depths. Since accurate amplitude representation is crucial in medical imaging, we propose a new algorithm that operates similarly to WA while providing image amplitudes consistent with DAS across the entire scene.
